Distracted? Overcommitted? Too busy? Do you ever feel like it’s just too much? In a world where we strive for balance and order, our busy lives can seem nothing short of chaotic and overwhelming.

Creating the right system can be the answer. I know…it sounds like too much work. Perhaps you’re not ready to tackle such a big project.

So let’s start small. I want to give you one thing you can start doing today that will change things. It’s called the Two-Minute Rule. I use it every single day.

And it’s amazingly simple and effective. All you do is take care of anything that takes two minutes or less as it occurs. Instead of leaving that cereal bowl in the kitchen sink, you clean it and put it away. Instead of reading an email and going back to it again later. You take action. Instead of leaving those files on your desk, you put them away. You get the idea.

You would think that such a simple rule would not have such a profound effect. But it does.

If you’re interested in why this is such a revelation, it’s because little things add up. And they clutter our lives and our brains. It’s hard – if not downright impossible – to focus on the important things when we have dozens of little items nagging at us.

There’s a terrific psychological boost that comes with implementing this rule too. Because you are knocking out all those pesky tasks, you feel less stressed. You feel more in control. And you feel like you can accomplish the bigger things that will really drive your success.

And you can, with fewer distractions!
